QUIET MORNINGS AT DURBANVILLE METHODIST CHURCH FOR THE YEAR

3 DAY INDIVIDUALLY GUIDED SILENT RETREATS FOR THE YEAR - 2019
The programme of 3 day Individually Guided Silent Retreats being offered for the year is as follows:
5-7 March 2019; 4-6 June 2019; 3-5 September 2019; 5-7 November 2019.
These are individually guided silent retreats in which the focus is spending time with God and yourself, using the listening exercises that are taught, with the purpose of renewing call, and rediscovering vocation - for the sake of the world!

"Solitude is the furnace of transformation. Without solitude we remain the victims of our society and continue to be entangled in the illusions of the false self. Jesus Himself entered into this furnace. There He was tempted with the three compulsions of the world; to be relevant ("turn stones into loaves"), to be spectacular ("thrown yourself down"), and to be powerful ("I will give you the Kingdoms of this world"). There he affirmed God as the only source of His identity. ("You must worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.") Solitude is the place of the great struggle and the great encounter - the struggle against the compulsions of the false self, and the encounter with the living God who offers Himself as the substance of the new self ....... solitude is not a private therapeutic place. Rather it is the place of conversion, the place where the old self dies and the new elf is born, the place where the emergence of the new man and the new woman occurs."
