Individually Guided 3 day Silent Retreats (Ignatian model)

7-9 March 2015 at Volmoed near Hermanus
7-9 June 2015 at Volmoed near Hermanus
15-17 September 2015 at Volmoed near Hermanus
3-5 November 2015 at Volmoed near Hermanus

I have for many years now offered a 6 day retreat using the above model for some who wanted a longer time of retreat. The venue was Volmoed near Hermanus and it worked fairly well. I would like to schedule one again this year in early August. Please let me know well in advance if you would like to be a part of this retreat.

All of the above retreats are silent individually guided retreats with the focus being on the participant’s journey with God. There are daily meetings with a Spiritual Director and a daily Communion Service.

Some comments of those who have been on these retreats ……..

“This retreat has helped me to come alive to myself and has helped me to see and hear God”

“It was good. I felt refreshed and connected with who I am. My call has been affirmed and I am rested and ready for the journey.”

Church and Group retreats

These are usually arranged according to the need of Group or Church and could either be one-day events or weekend retreats. They do need to be arranged fairly well in advance and the Church or group usually books the venue and does all the arranging, including with myself, or whoever, to lead the retreat. These retreats could cover various aspects of the individual’s or Church’s journey according to the local need

Teaching missions exploring a new paradigm of prayer.

This is a series of teachings (with time for practical application) over a few nights or even a weekend with a Church or group, introducing the whole idea of the contemplative element (i.e. quiet listening and watching) to our lives of prayer. I have entitled this “A new journey of prayer”.

A thirty-week retreat in daily life (19th Annotation of Ignatius’ Spiritual Exercises)

This is an adaptation of the 30 day retreat, which makes up the spiritual exercises of St Ignatius, in daily life and running for 30 weeks. This is especially for those who have had some experience of IgnatianSpirituality and would like to deepen this experience but cannot get away for a longer period. This is a good way of integrating the contemplative dimension of prayer into one’s daily life and at the same time cultivating the daily discipline of spending quality interactive time with God.

Comment:

“This has given me the framework for going deeper in my relationship with God and discovering that even though the journey is sometimes painful, the truth that God is at work in all things is real, and I have had the opportunity of exploring parts of my life that I never even realized were there. This has set me free for service in new ways that are a real joy.”

Spiritual Direction

Part of the ministry that we offer, is one on one Spiritual Direction as a personal discipline. It has been a real joy having more and more folk seeking to explore this discipline, and even though we might not be able to personally manage all the calls we offer to put people in touch with those who can fulfil this very important and crucial discipline in their lives.

A vital part of the revival of the need for this discipline is the discernment and training of those called to offer this ministry. Through the Centre for Christian Spirituality, and their considerable constituency of people experienced in this art, there are various training events and programs to try and meet his growing need.

So if you want to either explore Spiritual Direction for yourself, or have experienced this discipline for some time and believe that you are feeling called to explore offering this ministry to others, give me a call.

Comments:

“Spiritual direction is critical in the deepening journey of relationship with God… I affirm the ministry of Spiritual Direction. Without it I would have been going around in circles. It propelled me into the encounters I needed to have and made sense of those I had just had.. The training and nurturing of Spiritual Direction is critical to ministry …. I will use whatever resources at my disposal to facilitate this ongoing training and nurturing…. .”
